Visits to this site have plummeted since an inexplicable high on Wednesday, and are now comfortably back in the 20s. This is good because I was beginning to feel like if there were that many people reading I should be giving them more to read. Now the pressure's off! And I can just write stuff like this!
Here's a picture of the amazing Edith Massey. You didn't know she sang chorus in Fledermaus, did you?

I had a blog once, but it died...it died...it died....Actually it didn't, I just forgot where I put it (true). Herr Listmeister has posted your link to Savoynet--be warned, my messmates all...
Enjoyed the foray through your free associations, and am very glad you refrained from carrying life's absurdities into the art of TBJ. 'Twas a really good performance, and did not require puffing our goods, as it were....!
Cheers,
&i

My brother Doug's friend Gina Schock played drums for Edie and the Eggs before she was asked to join the Go-Gos!!!

Growing up, Gina was on the fringes of the John Waters crowd. She was a bit young to really get into their insanity. Her mother told her "if you make a movie with those people I'll throw you out." But, tis true. Her first "professional" gig was touring around with Edie. What an introduction to the world!
She also has great stories about going into the woods with her brother and throwing rocks at the freaks that were out there huffing glue.
When the Go-Go's were at their height, she was almost as much of a celebrated Baltimoron as John Waters. Her family is a riot, just what you'd hope a Baltimore family would be like. Lots of "what's up, hon?" and really just the nicest folks. Last year I saw her dad, and I said the typical "you probably don't remember me" kind of thing. He said "Doug of course I remember you. You're so handsome." I said "I think you're probably full of shit" and he laughed and told me he had no idea who I was. Kind of like something Martelle would do, really.
