This site had 83 visits yesterday (Wednesday), up a little bit from its usual 25-ish. There is nothing to which I can attribute this. Someone must have given it as a link. I really don't know. How can I know when so FEW PEOPLE LEAVE COMMENTS?
I have seen seven BORIS KARLOFF films this week. Film Forum, in the Village, has been having
a series. Because I live in New York, I get to do things like that! Doesn't it suck, not living here? Don't you wish you were me? Ha! Dream on! I'd have seen TEN Karloffs, but the Tuesday night showing of The Black Cat, The Old Dark House, and The Body Snatcher was sold out, with a long line of people through the lobby and halfway up the block for standby tickets! People love this stuff! I had never seen The Bride of Frankenstein in a packed theater before, and it was quite an experience. Used to be (he said, pausing to re-light his pipe and smack his toothless gums), even 10 years ago, people would have come to these movies to mock, sneer,
and snicker snidely. "Huh, huh, huh. Old-fashioned, huh, huh. Funny." Well, those people were stupid, but I guess now they're
smarter. ANyway it was good to see these fine Karloffilms with a somewhat sophisticated audience. These movies are funny, but they've always been funny. Wherever you live you can get a copy of Bride of Frankenstein. You will laugh, cry, cheer, jump, gawk, roll over, sit up, and beg. But unfortunately it will still all be over in 75 minutes. You should also see The Raven (also 1935), because it's only 61 thrill-packed, silly minutes plus it costars BELA LUGOSI!!!!
